‘Beneath the media hype’ readings on the Russia / Ukraine conflict 14.4.22

If you just uncritically read the mainstream media, you would most likely be thinking that pretty much the entire population of Ukraine is united in the aim of fighting the Russians. That’s the narrative it feels like we’re being fed 24/7. Obviously, if you’re reading this post, you haven’t swallowed the narrative and are more than willing to do some research, think for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

As you will see from reading the three articles we link to below, the reality is a lot more complex than the overly simplistic, biased shite the mainstream media want to dump on us mere plebs. There are people in the Ukraine who at some considerable risk to themselves, are kicking back against the rhetoric of war coming from Zelenksky’s regime. They deserve our full and unconditional solidarity…

Exclusive: Ukrainian Refuseniks On Why Many Won’t Fight for Ukraine – Fergie Chambers | Towards Freedom | April 12, 2022

A poll conducted in early March by the Ukrainian sociological group, “Rating,” indicated that, of those Ukrainians surveyed, over 90 percent supported their government’s war effort, and 80 percent claimed willingness to participate in armed resistance. However, this survey excluded people who live in the self-proclaimed independent republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in eastern Ukraine’s Donbass region. It also did not include the 1 million Ukrainians who had by then already fled the country. Since the survey, an additional 3.6 million have fled.

Beneath the façade of chest-beating patriotism, however, lies an anti-war movement. Just as it is diverse in its motivations to oppose the war, this movement is decentralized geographically and appears not unified enough to move as one force.

Ukrainian leftist criticizes Western war drive with Russia: US is using Ukraine as ‘cannon fodder’ – Yuliy Dubovyk | Multipolarista | March 14, 2022

The support for Ukraine that fills the Western media now is not out of real solidarity with the people of Ukraine. If that were the case, the US wouldn’t have overthrown our government twice in a decade; it wouldn’t have supported the policies that made us the poorest country in Europe; it wouldn’t have fueled a brutal civil war for the past eight years.

The reason US media outlets and politicians are all backing Ukraine now is because they want to use the Ukrainian military and civilian population as cannon fodder in a proxy war with a political adversary.

If It Feels Like You’re Being Manipulated, It’s Because You Are – Caitlin Johnstone | Caitlin’s Newsletter | April 11, 2022

If you’ve got a gut feeling that your rulers are working to control your perception of the war in Ukraine, it is safe to trust that feeling.

If you feel like there’s been a concerted effort from the most powerful government and media institutions in the western world to manipulate your understanding of what’s going on with this war, it’s because that’s exactly what has been happening.

If you can’t recall ever seeing such intense mass media spin about a war before, it’s because you haven’t.

  1. Hello from the UK

Many thanks for your post. As regards your last sentence “If you can’t recall ever seeing such intense mass media spin about a war before, it’s because you haven’t.” I think that is not rue, only because we have been spun this before over Iraq and WMD for example.

Nowadays I consider the Russia/Ukraine situation a distraction form other issues as much as anything else. I wrote my own article taken a somewhat humourous approach as I consider the whole thing more like political theatre than anything else. Here’ my link if you should be interested.
