February Bulletin

While we are bringing out printed papers to hand out on protests, we’re still not in a position to bring one out on a regular basis. That’s down to a combination of not having the money on the one hand and on the other, there simply not being enough distribution opportunities such as stalls at events plus venues willing to take a bundle of papers for their patrons. Mind you, being the ‘wrong kind of anarchists could well be why we would struggle to get a stall or find a venue willing to take our papers’! So be it – better to be right than sacrifice our principles. Anyway, for the moment as a compromise, we’ll be bringing out these monthly online bulletins instead.

  1. Editorial

How the heck do we write and produce a bulletin that, with the way events are unfolding, could well start to date within days? It’s a tough call sometimes but not as difficult as producing a paper ahead of a protest and writing it in a way that ensures it stays current – we were close to coming unstuck with the last one we produced in January!

Events are moving pretty swiftly. For us, the most notable is the truckers protest in Canada – a style of protest that’s now spreading across the globe. Despite the efforts by government, the mainstream media and too many fake radicals to smear the Canadian trucker protests as ‘alt right’, as you’ll see from the Redressing the balance piece later on in this bulletin, they are anything but. These protests are an uprising of working class people who’ve had enough of their lives and livelihoods being seriously disrupted for the last two years with no end in sight.

No uprising has ever taken place with everyone involved having a perfectly formed political outlook – whatever that may be these days… Uprisings are always messy and complicated, that’s what we’re seeing now. This is discussed in greater detail in this piece: Dealing with reality… The question is – do we sit on the sidelines as spectators or do we pitch in and join the uprisings that are happening? With our paper distributions on the anti-lockdown and anti-vaccine passport protests plus bursts of postering and stickering, we’re doing what we can as propagandists to get stuck in.

Obviously, doing what we do has come with a cost in terms of losing comrades and finding ourselves on the outside of the anarchist movement. So be it – at the end of the day, it comes down to a choice between living a lie in a bid to stay on the right side of people or being true to what you really believe. Whether we’ve made the right choice or not, only history can eventually judge…

  1. Something to think about

“People have only as much liberty as they have the intelligence to want and the courage to take.”
Emma Goldman

“Anarchism has but one infallible, unchangeable motto, “Freedom.” Freedom to discover any truth, freedom to develop, to live naturally and fully.”
Lucy Parsons, Lucy Parsons: Freedom, Equality & Solidarity – Writings & Speeches, 1878-1937

“Anarchists have a ‘bad name’ in the media, not because they can point to one indiscriminate massacre by anarchists – there have been none – but because the one thing holders of power fear is that they personally should be held responsible for their own actions.”
Stuart Christie

  1. Redressing the balance

You may – or may not given the level of media manipulation, bias and censorship – have heard about the ongoing protests in Canada by truck drivers and their supporters against vaccine passports and other repressive measures. Protests that are now spreading across the globe. If you have heard about them, the odds are that the ‘reporter’ or commentator are portraying these truckers as racist backwoodsmen. Which kind of glosses over the fact that are fair number of the truckers are of Punjabi origin. It also glosses over the level of support coming from First Nation peoples. In an effort to try and redress the balance, below are four reports/commentaries we’ve selected that deal what is really happening on the ground with these protests which will go down in history. All we ask is that you read these reports, go off and undertake your own research and then consider the significance of these protests which are now being replicated across the globe. Please don’t end up on the wrong side of history…

Trucker’s Protest Canada: Some Thoughts – Cory Morningstar | BS News | 2.2.22

This resistance is diverse. Men, women, children, truckers, Amish, Mennonites, trades, all nationalities, all colours. The groups that not stray far from their communities, are not in Ottawa, but showed their support for the truckers along Canadian highways, from coast to coast, in freezing temperatures. The truckers have concrete demands to restore basic rights to ALL Canadians, not just truck drivers. They have inspired resistance across the globe.

Freedom Convoy Demonised – CIA-colour revolutions celebrated – Gavin O’Reilly | OffGuardian | 4.2.22

With the Freedom Convoy converging on the Canadian capital Ottawa on Saturday however, the week-long media silence on the protest disappeared only to be quickly replaced by widespread mainstream media condemnation, with the use of likely agent provocateurs leading to the protest being widely lambasted, in lockstep, as ‘far-right’ and ‘fascist’ by corporate-owned outlets.

As Workers Resist, the Left Recoils – Edwin Aponte | Wrong Kind of Green | 30.1.22

By making social and economic participation contingent upon the taking of a speedily-developed medical product, average members of the global labor force are being placed in a dehumanizing position—either participate in the world’s largest clinical trial, or be cast into a life of social alienation and privation. Resistance to these vaccine mandates has been expressed through walkouts, picketing, coordinated sickouts, mass resignations, and most recently in Canada, massive truck convoys. And while COVID lockdown-related supply chain backups continue to play out, such revived worker militancy is adding to the already existing crises in the shipping, healthcare, and retail industries.

Attack of the Transphobic Putin-Nazi Truckers! – CJ Hopkins | Consent Factory, Inc. | 4.2.22

But, seriously, this is where we are at the moment. We are in that dangerous, absurdist end-stage of the collapse of a totalitarian system or movement where chaos reigns and anything can happen. The official Covid narrative is rapidly evaporating. More and more people are taking to the streets to demand an end to whole fascist charade … no, not “transphobic white supremacists” or “anti-vax extremists,” or “Russian-backed Nazis,” but working-class people of all colors and creeds, families, with children, all over the world.

  1. Conspiracy theorists?

We’ve been accused of being ‘conspiracy theorists’ when we’ve tried to draw attention to the way the ongoing crisis is being leveraged to push us towards this grim future. We’d like to point you to these two pieces from trusted sources which explain the roles of the various actors involved in this process. Here they are:

The WEF and the Pandemic– Swiss Policy Research | October 6, 2021
How is the Davos World Economic Forum involved in the coronavirus pandemic?
The Davos World Economic Forum (WEF) is a premier forum for governments, global corporations and international entrepreneurs. Founded in 1971 by engineer and economist Klaus Schwab, the WEF describes its mission as “shaping global, regional and industry agendas” and “improving the state of the world”. According to its website, “moral and intellectual integrity is at the heart of everything it does.” The WEF has been involved in the coronavirus pandemic in several ways.

Conspiracy theories aside, there is something fishy about the Great Reset – Ivan Wecke | Open Democracy | August 16, 2021
Intrigued by the palaver around last year’s summit, I decided to find out what the WEF’s Great Reset plan was really about. At the heart of conspiracy theories are supposed secret agendas and malicious intent. While these may be absent from the WEF’s Great Reset initiative, what I found was something almost as sinister hiding in plain sight. In fact, more sinister because it’s real and it’s happening now. And it involves things as fundamental as our food, our data and our vaccines.

  1. Satire:)

The above image is intended to be satirical but, it also comes very uncomfortably close to the truth.

  1. Too much tech?

In an ideal world, technology was supposed to make our lives easier, taking care of the drudge while we got on with the important things in life. One of the things it was intended to do was help us communicate more effectively with each other. Instead it has replaced meaningful face to face interactions with screen based ones. We all know how screen based communications can easily be misinterpreted and end up in toxic rows that divide us!

Look, we’re not complete Luddites – this blog is written and designed using a laptop. That’s one example of how design and print technology can democratise the way we communicate our ideas. The Net was supposed to have done that but as pretty much everyone who’s an activist can tell you, the unholy alliance of government and the tech corporations are working together to increasingly censor what we want to say online.

It’s legitimate to question who controls technology and who benefits from it. It sure as heck isn’t us! From online censorship, all pervasive surveillance in supposedly public spaces and facial recognition through to digital vaccine passports, digital identity and the acceleration of the move towards a cashless society, technology is being weaponised against us.

As an aside, QR codes were originally devised to make stock control of items in a warehouse more efficient. That’s fine if that’s as far as it goes – there’s nothing wrong in deploying technology to make working in a warehouse easier. The thing is, they’ve gone way beyond that…

We’re at a point where if we don’t put up a fight, we’ll be obliged to rely on having the right QR code to access colleges, schools, hospitals, supermarkets, sports stadia, entertainment venues, restaurants, pubs…the list goes on. We’ll end up being controlled like items of stock. That’s how the corporations and governments see us – as mere items of stock that can be discarded if we get too difficult. This is the dehumanising future these bastards have in store for us as part of their coveted ‘fourth industrial revolution’ – if we let them that is. We won’t let them though, will we?

  1. Transhumanism, the great reset & the ‘new normal’ – some important readings

None of these pieces make for comfortable reading but we have to understand what’s swiftly coming down the line towards us in order to be able to resist it. Also, featuring most of these readings isn’t going to do our already fragile relationship with the anarchist movement any favours. So be it. We’d rather be on the right side of history than popular…

The Disturbing Origins of Cybernetics and Transhumanism – Matthew Ehret | Off Guardian | June 26, 2021
This Borg-like deterministic faith in the human-machine synthesis that pervades the thinking of all modern transhumanists is both cultish, creepy and just plain wrong. However, without a proper evaluation into the historic roots of these ideas that threaten to derail global civilization into a dystopian collapse, it is impossible to understand anything fundamental about the past 120 years of human experience, let alone see where the fatal flaws are within the Great Reset/Transhumanist operating system.

The Transhumanism in the Middle of the “Gender Identity” Living Room – Jennifer Bilek | The 11th Hour | June 24, 2021
This forced evolution of our species, is upon us. We must understand that gender is a façade, to normalize the desexing of our species toward a more complex melding with technology than we have seen thus far. We must be brave enough to face the transhumanism in the middle of the “gender identity” living room or be changed forever.

Manufacturing (New Normal) “Reality” – CJ Hopkins | Substack | June 20, 2021
The ultimate goal of every totalitarian system is to establish complete control over society and every individual within it in order to achieve ideological uniformity and eliminate any and all deviation from it. This goal can never be achieved, of course, but it is the raison d’être of all totalitarian systems, regardless of what forms they take and ideologies they espouse. You can dress totalitarianism up in Hugo Boss-designed Nazi uniforms, Mao suits, or medical-looking face masks; its core desire remains the same: to remake the world in its paranoid image … to replace reality with its own “reality.”

The Great Self-Betrayal and the Great Reset – Tessa Lena | Substack | June 8, 2021
The Fourth Industrial Revolution (which, by the way, is an official goal of western governments at the moment, as per many official documents and contracts) is predicated upon our spiritual and physical self-betrayal, and I mean it literally. We are asked to dance along the carrot and the whip of their biosecurity-state-impact-investment-gene-therapy-total-surviellance reform but they don’t tell us how it all ends for us. Nor do they care about minds or bodies.

The technocene and the normalisation of bodily dissociation – TheQuieterOne | Final hour | Substack | May 16, 2021
It will take a smarter person than me to fully articulate what’s going on here. Obviously, right at the heart of it, there’s greed driving it, but there’s also a cultural connection here that I haven’t yet seen explored elsewhere. That the woke generation have been weaponised by corporate power is not a new thought. The same generation is being used to normalise the mutilation of children and simultaneously to demand censorship with a fundamentalist religious fervour to obscure the fact that the same profiteering entities are carrying out a global genetic engineering experiment. Is that a connection that others have meditated on?

  1. All Change!

While doing some behind the scenes work, we had a bit of an IT disaster and lost access to all of our blogs – The Thurrock and Basildon Heckler | The Stirrer | Alternative Estuary. We tried to regain access to our account but WordPress were putting a lot of hurdles in the way and asking for verification information we could not provide. Rather than carry on banging our heads against a brick wall, we decided to cut our losses and start afresh. As the two of us behind this project are hoping to be moving down to Bristol by the early summer, we were due a bit of a relaunch anyway – it’s just happened sooner than planned! Anyway, here are the two replacement blogs:

The Stirrer – https://thestirrer.blog/

Note the quote marks around ‘wrong type of anarchists’ in the banner above. While we like to think we adhere to what we see as anarchist principles, over the years, a number of differences have seen us move further away from the movement. So be it – at least we have the freedom to think freely and ask difficult questions without being hauled over the coals!
What gets posted up on here are mainly our attempts to understand the weird, dystopian situation we’ve been in since March 2020 and coming in on top of that, the great reset / fourth industrial revolution. There are also, more reflective pieces on issues such as planning, community activism, etc.

Grassroots Alternatives – https://grassrootsalternatives.uk/

It’s easy to know what you’re against in a dysfunctional, unsustainable and increasingly dystopian world. Railing against the world we have to endure may make you feel better but…does it lead to positive change? We know that the political, economic and social system we inhabit is rapidly heading towards its use by date and that we have to bring about radical change if we’re going to survive. There are many ways of bringing about the change that’s needed. What this page is about is what can be done in the here and now to boost sustainability, community cohesion and neighbourhood resilience in an increasingly volatile world. It’s about building the new world we need and want in the decaying shell of the old one we currently endure.

Any posts relating to Thurrock and Basildon will be going straight up on The Stirrer Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/stirringsfrombelow

We hope that explains everything:)

  1. Don’t let the divide and rule merchants win

This post was first publish on our sister blog, Grassroots Alternatives

The whole point of this project is to support genuine grassroots initiatives that will bring people together in activities benefiting the whole community. This is hard enough to achieve in normal times as the time pressures many people have to deal with leave them unable to devote the hours and energy needed to make a success of a community project. Although as we’ve always said, getting stuck into a grassroots project is a first step in not just self and community transformation, but also in bringing about the new world we want.

You don’t need us to tell you that the experience of the last two years with the coronavirus crisis and the subsequent lockdowns and tiered restrictions has been anything but normal. It has sadly taken its toll on some grassroots projects. On the other hand, it’s provided the impetus for the emergence of new projects whose scope ranges from community gardening through to mutual aid initiatives. A key part of the success of any new grasroots initiative is building a sense of solidarity that can bring people together for the good of the community.

In these troubled and increasingly divisive times, building and maintaining that solidarity has become more challenging. At every turn, the authorities and the mainstream media have, and continue to foster, dangerous divisions. Maskers vs anti-maskers, vaxxers vs anti-vaxxers, fanatic supporters of social distancing vs those who just want some normal human contact again – the list goes on and on. There are elements on both sides of these divides who seem only too happy to perpetuate these toxic divisions. The so called ‘journalists’ fostering this really need to take a long hard look at themselves because they’re complicit in the government’s strategy of divide and rule. The thing is, it’s lousy for our communities. Who wants to live in a tense, divided community? We certainly don’t.

The last thing the state and their corporate backers want is grassroots solidarity arising from a project that brings a diverse range of people together and also, gives us the start of some degree of independence. The authorities want us frightened, divided and totally dependent on them – that way, we’re easier to control. If we let them get away with it that is. Now, more than ever, we need to reject the divide and rule tactics that are being used to divide and weaken us. If we can do that, we’ve made a move towards building the new world we want on our terms…

  1. Whoever controls the food supply controls the population

On our sister blog, Grassroots Alternatives (the successor to Alternative Estuary), we’ve already posted up a fair number of pieces about food supply and security. This is what has gone up so far:

Seed banks – gaining control…

Another reason to grow our own food:)

Food deserts, food supply and taking back control

Why what we do IS political

Now more than ever, we need to grow our own food

A common theme is pointing out that whoever controls the food supply controls the populace. That applies wherever you are on the globe – it is a universal truth. Having seen how governments have behaved over the last two years, assuming even more powers and imposing drastic restrictions to ostensibly deal with Covid, a growing number of people are waking up to the truth that government and the corporations they serve do not have our interests at heart. As this truth dawns, they’re starting to ask more questions about our food supply chains and the corporations that control them. There is a growing interest in ways of bypassing these supply chains and bringing food production down to a more local and sustainable level where we have more control over it. This is one of the core components of our project.

The last thing these corporations and the governments that do their bidding want is for food production to be a more local, community focused affair. Something that is dealt with in some depth in this insightful piece:

An Inconvenient Truth: The Peasant Food Web Feeds the World – Colin Todhunter | OffGuardian | 5.2.22
Smallholder peasant farming is regarded by these conglomerates as an impediment. Their vision is fixated on a narrow yield-output paradigm based on the bulk production of commodities that is unwilling to grasp an integrated social-cultural-economic-agronomic systems approach that accounts for the likes of food sovereignty and diverse nutrition production per acre.
This systems approach also serves to boost rural and regional development based on thriving, self-sustaining local communities rather than eradicating them and subordinating whoever remains to the needs of global supply chains and global markets. Industry lobbyists like to promote the latter as ‘responding to the needs of modern agriculture’ rather than calling it for what it is: corporate imperialism.

Although promoting community food growing, community allotments and the like may on the surface to be a feel good, ‘fluffy’ project, the way we see it is that it’s anything back. It’s actually quite a subversive act which for the moment, is one that in a fair few locations, can still fly under the radar of the authorities. Mind you, with the accelerated push towards the fourth industrial revolution, that can’t be guaranteed. So, literally and metaphorically, we need to dig in…
